New Classes Beginning 2016-2017 Season

“Tender Movement” is our new dance class for special needs children with Down Syndrome, Autism and delayed communication. Dance classes have many benefits for children and the same applies to children with special needs.

Dance promotes exercise and healthier living, develops self-confidence and social skills by interacting with other children. It develops remembering sequence of events, memory development, listening skills, and of course brings pleasure to the student by listening and moving to music. Importantly, dance develops gross motor skills, flexibility and muscle tone and improves balance and posture.

This ballet and tap combination class is design for ages 6 years through 10 years of age and will meet once per week for one-hour. This class will be held on Thursdays, times to be announced.

An Adult Ballet class has been added to our schedule this year.  The class will include the study of Cecchetti Grade I Ballet; barre, center combinations, adage and allegro work.  This is a wonderful exercise for all adult ages.  The class is scheduled on Tuesday mornings from 10:00-11:00 am.
Homeschool Dance Program:  This is actually the second year for this program but it is getting more attention this dance season.

Exercise and music is certainly part of the homeschooled student’s curriculum.  Here at the Dance Centre we offer a ballet and tap combination class for two separate age groups; a class for ages 5-6 years and a class for ages 7-10 years.

We introduce the Cecchetti Primary material for the younger age group and the Cecchetti Grade I material for the older age group.  The tap class includes a warm-up, tap technique and across the floor combinations for each age group.  The tap material that is introduced is age appropriate.  A terminology and practice syllabus is included for these classes.  The program is offered on Wednesday’s beginning at 11:00 am.
Welcome to the
Dance Centre of Northwest Ohio
Owner and Artistic Director, Carol Dorfmeyer-Huster has been a part of the Anthony Wayne community since 1994.
She began teaching in Wauseon, Ohio as a college student, for the local VFW Dance & Baton Program.  After graduation from college, the Wauseon Dance Academy was established in August of 1981 and the dance school remained a member of the Fulton County Community for 15 years.
In 1994, she purchased a dance school from a dance teacher friend that was located in Waterville, Ohio.  For two years she operated both schools in Wauseon and Waterville.  Though the years in Wauseon were very gratifying, the desire to work closer to home “out weighed” the many hours traveling between both locations.  In 1996, she consolidated the schools, closing the Wauseon Dance Academy.
The school in Waterville continued to flourish so more dance space was needed.  In January of 1997, Whitehouse became the home of The Dance Centre of NWO attracting students from Fulton, Henry, Wood and Lucas counties.
The Dance Centre of NWO has earned an excellent reputation for it’s exceptional dance program, a family orientated and professional atmosphere, and trustworthy and ethical business practices.
